Jordan Baker: It was the girl who was in love with Nick and was a friend of Buchanan.

Myrtle Wilson: Woman thirties, slightly thick. Wife of George Wilson and Tom Buchanan lover. Dies near the end of the novel.

George Wilson: Husband of Myrtle and Tom mechanic. It is the murderer of Gatsby.

III. Analysis: The Great Gatsby is a book about finding lost happiness: Gatsby seeks the lost happiness that once found in his love of youth with Daisy. So I put quotes in the "love" of the abstract, because what Gatsby Daisy wants is not proper, but the happiness that long ago reached beside her. In the book we understand as imagining the future can be a form of nostalgia, as we imagine the future to evade this. The strength and determination of Gatsby reside in your idea to recover that joy again in the near future. Overall the book a sad book in which we see the stark reality is. Tom deceives Daisy, who deceives Tom and Myrtle deceives her husband and still are not happy. Some yearn for the past, others no longer get to be motivated by things, everyone thinks they are doing a journey toward life, toward that future that will finally happy. The Great Gatsby a book with a lot of symbols on the one hand, there are the colors. The yellow this I related with wealth and death. Scott Fitzgerald uses in all descriptions of the house and Gatsby parties (the flowers are yellow, girls dresses are yellow ...) and yellow is the color of the car with which it runs over Myrtle. The blue color it has relation with wisdom, just the color of the glasses of our dear lord owlish eyes and the eyes of T.J. Eckleburg on the road advertisement. On the other side are the eyes of the latter mentioned just before every evil act of the novel, are in the valley of ashes, where the infidelity of Tom occurs, the abuse of Myrtle and appear when Wilson does what he does at the end from the book. The eyes are fixed there, watching what happens in the Valley of Ashes. George puts Myrtle in the window and tells him he cannot fool God. Wilson then made the same connection as us; eyes T.J. Eckleburg are always looking, like the eyes of God or our consciousness part of ourselves.

QUOTES:

'You cannot repeat the past.

Isn't can repeat the past? Of course I can! I'll fix everything as it was before.

He gives great parties and I like big parties. They are so intimate! At small parties there is no privacy.

Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year after year is backing away from us. It eluded us then, but that does not matter ... tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out over arms ... And one day ... you'll win. Boats against the current, constantly going up the stream into the past.

New York, 1922. The temperament of the city had changed dramatically. The buildings were taller; parties, larger; morality, and liquor lighter, cheaper. Agitation was approaching hysteria.

"The time decides who will meet in life, your heart decide who you want in your life and your behavior decides who stays in your life."

"He looked at her the way that every woman wants to be looked at"

I hope it's silly, the best in this world for a girl is to be beautiful and silly.

IV. Interpretation: The Great Gatsby as emblems of these social trends. Nick and Gatsby, who participated in World War I exhibit the new cosmopolitanism and cynicism that generated the conflict. The various ambitious speculators who frequent Gatsby's parties show greed and frantic race to achieve wealth. The clash between the "old money" and "new money" is manifested in the symbolic geography of the novel: East Egg represents the old aristocracy, West Egg to the new rich. Meyer Wolfshiem and fortune Gatsby symbolize the rise of organized crime and the illegal manufacture of liquor. In the version of Fitzgerald (and Nick as explained in Chapter 9), the American dream originally consisted of the discovery, individualism and the pursuit of happiness. However, in the 1920s described in the novel easy money and relaxed social values they have corrupted this dream, especially on the East Coast.

V. Evaluation: The novel touches the topic of platonic love, unrequited love sublimation. In my opinion it is a pathological love, it is a lovesick , a lover of love getting a fortune as a means of conquering a woman who is a minor of conceited old and little more than a luxury. I think the work is well written because it explained everything about the novel, it has an easy word understanding and also because explained some consequences of the bad and good acts that the people made.
