I attended St. Michael's Elementary School, where I studied until I was nine because afterwards I moved to the city of Tutshill. When I was a teenager, my great-aunt gave me an old copy of Jessica Mitford's autobiography, Hons and Rebels, so she became my heroine and continually read all her works, getting deeper and deeper into the world of books; attending high school at Wyedean School.

When I wanted to do my university studies, I wish to do them at Oxford University in 1982, but I could´nt so I studied French and classical philology in the University of Exeter, which I did´nt enjoy much until I made good friendships with some of my colleagues. Then I studied for a year in Paris and from there I moved to London to work as a researcher and bilingual secretary in International Amnesty.

In June of 1990, I traveled by train from Manchester to London where I had the idea that changed my life, because that train broke down for four hours and that's where I came up to write about a school of magicians, and at that moment if knowing why or where, the name of Harry Potter came to my mind and I thought of a child, who I imagined how it was and how was dressed; so as a result of this both he and all the characters came to my mind, so I began to write immediately about them, but it took me a few more years to finish the book.

During that process, unfortunately my mother died who was the only person who supported me in my dream of being a writer, so she did´nt have the opportunity to know about Harry Potter. This situation affected me a lot and I wrote many details in the loss that Harry has in the first book.

Later, I moved to the city of Porto to work as an English teacher. In this place, I met Jorge Arantes who was a journalist and who I fell in love with. After accepting to be his girlfriend, I had many problems with him, but in spite of it I made the mistake of accepting to marry, and on October 16, 1992 I did it, although my friends with whom I lived, they told me no to do it because he was´nt a good man.

On July 27, 1993, my reason for being was born, my daughter Jessica Isabel Rowling Arantes. During my marriage, Jorge was unfaithful to me and I had to endure his alcoholism, but in November of the same year I decided to leave him with my baby, because I could´nt stand the situation; so I traveled to Scotland where I stayed to live with my sister.

The following year was very difficult for me, because I had to start the divorce, a situation that caused me to fall into depression because of the problems that this led and the shortcomings that my daughter and I had, this being why I had the idea of ​​the Dementors who are the soulless creatures that appear in one of Harry's books.

Finally in 1995, I was able to finish writing my book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, but I could´nt publish it immediately, since I was not popular at the time and I was looking for someone who would help me to represent me, so that a publisher could look at my book; so Christopher Little Literary Agents helped me and got a small publisher called Bloomsbury interested in my book, and it was that from this, they agreed to print my book which took two years to start distributing in some libraries.

As I tell you, from the first book of Harry Potter is that my success began, and from then on I have been fortune to keep writing, so Harry's saga has seven books which have been best seller. I have also written other books for children and even adults.

The fame I have had is thanks to my family who has always supported me, since in addition to my daughter Jessica Isabel, I have two children plus David Gordon and Mackenzie Jean Rowling Murray and I am currently married to his father Neil Michael Murray.
