Comparing Me as Lord Henry

Relating the novel to my personal experiences, I have to accept that society influences a lot in my behavior and way of thinking. Usually in regards to decisions I don’t care a lot about society, but just my closest relations as my family or my girlfriend. I would compare myself to Lord Henry, because of his strong confident decisions. I don’t have all the characteristics he does, but I share most of them. I do share some traits of Dorian, but they are only few. Some of those few ones can be when I get convinced to do things which aren’t good for me. Overall, one has to know by own account whether a person is doing for the good and if he/she will affect society in a positive way or negative. Every action we do is counted by society and whether we do good or bad the society will still criticize one.

In conclusion what one can understand about these two stories is human nature and how society can influence someone. As analyzed before, all depends on the person’s thinking and on how confident one is about oneself, although the thinking is affected by society. In the story of Dorian Gray, one can analyze that Dorian was being very selfish and he easily got influenced. Most of his actions depended on him and not the society and that point is what the essay is about. Taking all into consideration, one has to be confident of what one is doing and must be the change one wishes to see in the world. Believe in yourself! Have faith in your abilities! Without a humble but reasonable confidence in your own powers you cannot be successful or happy.
