Reverence to the wild aspects

Another important reason is that each artwork is a celebration of reverence of its untamed aspects, its wild beauty and awe inspiring presence, as we can see on many of his paintings he included natural aspects that bring reality to the paint, He tried to include all possible details, revealing nature in its most beautiful aspect. “Von Guérard applied his training to produce a group of picturesque landscapes intended for the general public who increasingly saw the landscape less in the context of Biblical theories of origins and more as a search for fundamental truths of nature” (NWS, 2000, p.4 ).

In conclusion, his art is a reverence for the beauty of the world, his great skill helped him to capture details in every corner and express them through his paintings. He was the most important Australian painter of his time because he made people stay for a long time admiring their paintings and analyzing each of their details. Von Guérard marketed his talent for realism to affluent Victorian landowners, enabling him to secure a range of commissions of portraits modelled on similar paintings of English country houses. This body of work provides an illustrated chronology of pastoral development from early colonial cottage to more mansions and, like his written record of the gold fields, documents a social and geopolitical adaptation of land after European settlement. One of his main influences was Alexander von Humboldt with whom he shared certain characteristics that made them great painters, such as the meticulousness and details that included in their paintings; and the artworks of they both served for geographic studies. Nevertheless, Eugene Von Guerad emphasized in his environment because he had a variation in its paintings that attracted to different publics.
