Illegal immigrants increase the economy of the country. Johnson & Hill (2011) suggests that “at least 75% of adult illegal immigrants are in the workforce” (p. 8). In other words, they work in the hard sector such as construction. But “they are also concentrated in manufacturing (especially textiles and animal processing), retail trade (especially restaurants), and services (especially private household services)” (Johnson & Hill, 2011, p. 9). Thus, they are essential in the country because American citizens do not like working in certain kind of these sectors. Besides, “most economists agree that unauthorized immigrants increase total economic output” (Johnson & Hill, 2011, p. 12). Therefore, if they are deported, the economy will have a negative impact. Instead of increase, it will decrease. That is why it is important to understand that illegal immigrants are a key part of the country.
The arguments presented about illegal immigrants prove that they are essential for the United States. Therefore, it is necessary to find a solution to the problem of illegal immigration; everyone has to be involved and make a little contribution. The congress has to change its position about unauthorized immigration. They cannot be treated as criminals because of their legal status. The Chief Shepherd of the Catholic Diocese of Dallas, the Bishop Kevin Farrel (2013) stated on his blog that the Archbishop José Gómez of Los Angeles has said recently that the right to life implies the right to emigrate — to leave our country if we must, to seek a better life for our families and ourselves. In a world divided by war, famine, persecution, and economic dislocations, immigration becomes a crucial guarantee of our right to life (n.p.). Therefore, we have the same rights and it is important to keep that in mind. Unauthorized immigrants cannot be deported, instead of that they deserve to apply for a legal status.
