In the world of trade, the top export destinations of Japan are: China, United States, South Korea, and Hong Kong, in that order; top import origins are: China, United States, Australia, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Exports and imports to Japan are important because they allow further growth and development in the country, exports are important because it constitutes a source of income and imports can improve the welfare of the population.
Importance of Globalization in Japan (KOF Index, …).
Economic Globalization
This dimension is composed of two sub-indexes: real economic flows and trade and capital restrictions. Trade information is included in the first sub index, specifically is the sum of exports and imports of a country, foreign direct investment and portfolio investment, measured by the sum of stock assets and guarantees, and income payments to foreigners.
The second sub index refers to restrictions on trade and capital, using tariff barriers, no tariff barriers, trade taxes and capital controls.

Social Globalization
In this dimension there are three sub-indices: personal contacts, information flows and cultural proximity. The first is intended to capture the direct interaction between people living in different countries; it is included in this sub index international traffic of telecommunications, international tourism, transfers, foreign population and number of letters sent from one country to another.
In the sub index Information Flow, it is measuring the potential exchange of ideas and images. Includes the number of Internet users, the percentage of households with television, and international trade journals.
Finally, within this dimension, is the cultural proximity, given the complexity of the term, this is the most difficult to measure subscript. This is used for the book trade, the number of McDonald's restaurants and the number of stores IKEA, understanding that these two companies are global icons of globalization.
